Inside CHANEL’s High Jewellery: Celebrating Heritage Through Five Captivating Collections

Gabrielle Chanel’s Bijoux de Diamants collection in 1932 set the foundation for a revolution in High Jewellery, blending elegance with innovation. Today, that same spirit of creativity and craftsmanship continues to shine through every piece from the CHANEL High Jewellery collections. From the initial sketch by the CHANEL Fine Jewellery Creation Studio to the search for exceptional gemstones and meticulous craftsmanship at 18 Place Vendôme, each creation is a masterpiece of hand-crafted artistry.

Discover the CHANEL High Jewellery creations through five captivating stories—Plume de CHANEL, Haute Joaillerie Sport, N°5 collection, Tweed de CHANEL, and Le Lion de CHANEL—blending French savoir-faire with boundless imagination and a unique jewellery language.

Plume de CHANEL

The feather motif occupies a central place in the CHANEL universe since 1910, when Gabrielle Chanel adorned her first masterpiece – a hat – with a delicate feather. In 1932, the feather debuted in High Jewellery with the Bijoux de Diamants collection, featuring a brooch that captured its lightness and flexibility with remarkable precision. In 2010, Patrice Leguéreau honoured this emblem by making it the focus of his debut High Jewellery collection, Plume de CHANEL, a tribute to the House’s enduring artistry. Two years later, he celebrated the 80th anniversary of Bijoux de Diamants with 135 new pieces. Today, CHANEL continues this legacy with a new High Jewellery collection celebrating the timeless elegance of the feather.

Haute Joaillerie Sport

Inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s revolutionary approach to women’s fashion, which prioritised freedom of movement and effortless style, the Haute Joaillerie Sport collection celebrates the sports style of CHANEL. Designed to become one with the wearer, each jewellery creation expresses the contours of an allure according to CHANEL—that of a woman always on the move.

The Graphic Line necklace celebrates freedom of the body and the elegance of movement, featuring a 10.15-carat cushion-cut sapphire sourced from an exceptional set of five stones from Kashmir. The chevron motif and 24.35 carats of baguette-cut rubies create a dynamic rhythm and sense of speed. A first in High Jewellery, the reverse side is just as beautiful as the front, displaying on the back the CHANEL name.

N°5 Collection

In 1921, when Gabrielle Chanel designed “a woman’s perfume with a woman’s scent,” she envisioned an exceptional creation that embodied the essence of femininity: CHANEL N°5. To mark the 100th anniversary of the iconic N°5 perfume, in 2021, Patrice Leguéreau created a unique High Jewellery collection of 123 pieces, celebrating every facet of the legendary fragrance. Imagined as a journey from the outside to the inside of the bottle, the collection unfolds in five chapters: the stopper, the bottle, the number, the flowers, and the fragrance trail.

The number 5, both Gabrielle Chanel’s lucky and favourite number, has inspired these pieces which feature the 5 at its centre. The emerald-cut, echoing the stopper of the perfume bottle and the shape of Place Vendôme, enhances the clarity and brilliance of the gemstones chosen by CHANEL.

Tweed de CHANEL

Tweed, a fabric inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s connection to the Duke of Westminster and English aristocracy, became a hallmark of her collections in the late 1920s. Chanel not only introduced tweed to French fashion but reimagined its possibilities. Imagine the impossible, then make it a reality—this is the challenge the CHANEL Fine Jewellery Creation Studio embraced with Tweed de CHANEL, transforming the House’s iconic tweed into High Jewellery for the first time, as supple and sensual as the fabric itself. This innovation marked the birth of a new language in High Jewellery that is unique to CHANEL.

In its second opus, unveiled in 2023, this dream evolves further, drawing inspiration from five House icons—Ribbon, Camellia, Stars, Sun, and Lion. With vivid colours, intricate stone cuts, and flexible settings, CHANEL interprets tweed with the same creative freedom as in couture, crafting a High Jewellery collection that redefines elegance and artistry. Le Lion de CHANEL

A symbol of Gabrielle Chanel’s astrological sign and bold personality, the lion embodies the spirit of CHANEL. Captivating and majestic, it adorns everything from the buttons of her suits to her handbags’ clasps, and has become an emblem of CHANEL High Jewellery. In the Legendary Lion rings, this powerful icon is reimagined with intricate detail, featuring fancy-cut diamonds intertwined in the lion’s headdress for a striking and precious effect.
